The hydroelectric power station of Olaberri, or Laborde as it is also known, poses an insurmountable obstacle for the moving upstream fish, where no efficient device was in place. For this reason, as well as being a ram in use with a leap greater than 7 m, a decision was made to adopt an unusual solution: a lock for fish.

This device began to operate on an ongoing basis on 15 April, with radio labelled salmon leaping over it documented for the first time on 23 May. This is an 81cm wild salmon weighing 5.16 kg.

These data have been obtained since 16 May with the monitoring of a total of 24 adult salmon to date in the Orbeldi catch area in the river Oria, managed by the DFG since 1997.

There are captured, their biometric data recorded and tracking devices installed. They were subsequently released and their monitoring began through the river network.

This enables the study of the upstream migration of these salmon in the river Oria and in the Leitzaran and evaluate the functionality of the passage devices for fish living in the fish weirs found in both rivers.

News of the passage of this adult salmon is particularly relevant, due to the unusual design of locks for fish, and its correct operation is crucial to ensure the passage of salmon, trout and other species upstream in the Leitzaran.
